BattleShip
An educational game for grades 1 and up
Educational Use
This game could be used during any lessons concerning strategy or probability. As children
are asked to place their ships, they have to think about where their opponent would least likely look.
On the flipside, players have to think about where their opponent placed his/her ships. Students can also
figure probability of hitting a ship with random strikes or by picking strategic points in some order. Perhaps
they will try working in from the corners or out from the middle. Though the first couple of games may
be just getting used to the game, those following with consistently become more thoughtful.
Educational Value
I see this game have quite a bit of educational value. Where students may not learn a lot of tangible
application in this game, they will learn develop a thought process that helps them with their problem-
solving abilities. Anticipation and strategy are just a couple of the attributes this game practices. With
it's familiarity and cool sound effects, they'll love it all while working on this educational benefits.
Description and Directions
This game is just like the classic Battle Ship that we all grew up with. You
are given a carrier, a battleship, a submarine, a cruiser, and a destroyer. You are free to place those
ships wherever they will fit on your half of the board. All the same, the opponent does the same. After all
pieces are placed, you and your opponent (in this case the computer) take alternating turns of one picking
places on the others board trying to find the other's ships. This goes on until one of the players has
sunk all of the other's ships. Same rules as with mom but this one won't let you win so easy!
