Latest update to this document: 28 February 2003

Dogs are amazing animals that have been loyal to man for hundreds of years. They vary in size from 5 inches high to 32 inches at the shoulder. They come in white, black, blue, brindle, fawn, and every variation and combination of each. Long hair, short hair, thick hair, thin hair; dogs come in any combination to accomodate everyone from the playful 6-year-old child to the more relaxed 92-year-old grandpa. Though all dogs carry some basic characteristics that makes them all canines. With their distinguishing heads, bodies, and legs, all dogs have the basic shape and layout as the diagram at the top of this page. This diagram labels the technical terms used for the different parts of the dog's basic anatomy.
