Electronic Books are useful in many different ways. They are very easy to download, which means that anyone can do it. All you have to do is choose a book and follow it's downloading procedures. E-books are also farely easy to read. It's almost the same exact thing as reading from a paperback book only you have to scroll down on the computer to read more. Many of the e-books are free making them easy for people to access.
One of the main uses for e-books is to incorporate them into a classroom. It's a great way to get students to read since most of them will probably enjoy computers. Many will be able to focus more on a computer screen than a paperback book. As a teacher you can assign each student to read a section of a book or even the entire book and then talk about it as a class. Students who don't finish the reading can save the e-book onto a disk and take it home with them to finish for homework.
I don't really mind e-books. It's a nice and easy way to read free books. There are many problems associated with e-books. My eyes get tired from looking at a computer screen for a long time and I lose my spot using the scrolling down method at times, but overall it's a great way to read something that you can't afford.
It's going to be interesting to see if e-books become more popular in the years to come. I know I am going to try and use these in my classroom when I teach.
Project GutenbergThis site has tons of books from the early 1900's. These stories are considered classics to many of us. You can search by title or author in order to find the right book. The reading can be used for any classroom, but mainly highschool since most of the stories are really long. |

Bedtime StoriesA nice place for little children to go and read a story before bed. The site has a story index where children can find an interesting book to read. There are also pictures within the text to create a better reading experience. |
We ReadThis site contains three sections; Kid's Corner, Teen's Corner, and Parent's Corner. The Kid's Corner is the interesting one. The e-books found here are filled with pictures and a speaker actually reads the story for you. It's a great way to get people who don't like to read to listen to the story instead. I even enjoyed listening to a few stories. |
NMU E-book SearchNmu has it's own e-book collection. I didn't think I would come across this one. It's almost exactly like the Gutenberg site where you have to search for the books using author or title. You can also save your books on the eBookshelf and read them at a later time. |
Book Rags1,500 e-books can be found on this site. They are all alphabetized so you can locate what you are looking for very easily. There is also a link to the top 100 e-books on this site. This is a great site to have bookmarked. |
Free BooksThis site offers a variety of topics for e-books from children to history novels. There are hundreds of books located here. Each month new books are added so make sure to check this site out every month to read them. |
Books-On-Line18889 mostly free books are found on this page. Use the search engine to find a book of interest and find out if it is free or not. Some of the ones that you have to pay for offer free samples of the story to view in case you want to buy it. There also is a "we recommend" section where the more popular titles are seen here. |
Barnes and NobleMany free books can be viewed here. Just click on the topic link of your choice (horror, history, etc.) and find a story that you might like. It's perfect for any age especially for students who like to read. |
1 E-BooksThis site claims to have the largest collection of e-books on the web. There are a variety of topics to choose from. However, you must register in order to download the free e-books. Overall this seems like a great site. |
Book ValleySci-Fi, broadway, mystery, adventures, and many more novels can be found here. Children of all ages can read these books and it's very easy to access the stories. |
Simon SaysThis site is a pay site, but I chose it because it looked cool and the books are farely cheap. The books seem like they are for the older readers ranging from a variety of categories. So if you have pocket change and want an e-book check this site out. |
