E-Books

The Internet continues to grow and with that so does the electronic media. E-books are now hitting the main stage as a tool for educating students. These e-books could be very important to educators in the future. It is an easy access way to get reading materials. However, it may be awhile before e-books replace the good old-fashioned paperback. Regardless, here are some sites that may help in the finding of e-books and resources on how to put them to good use.

E-Book Resource Links

Project Gutenberg
http://promo.net/pg/

Project Gutenberg contains text of books that are no longer in publication. Mostly found here are old classics.

The Online Books Page
http://onlinebooks.library.upenn.edu/

The Online Books Page contains a search for e-books along with news and features. E-books can be searched by author or title on this site.

Can e-books Improve Libraries?
http://skyways.lib.ks.us/central/ebooks/

I found this site quite interesting. It doesn't have any e-books to access, but it does contain information on how e-books can help your education and libraries.

Bartleby.com E-book Store
http://www.bartleby.com/ebook/

Bartleby.com allows researchers to look at a few different e-books. In order to view these books a program must be possessed or downloaded at the site.

Searchebooks.com
http://www.searchebooks.com/

This search engine allows for one to search for e-books online. This search is kind of painful and not as easy as others I've seen.

Create Ebooks
http://hyper-publish.com/ebooks.htm

This site is dedicated to a program called EBooksWriter. I thought this would be a great idea for Literature classes in the future. Students could produce their own e-books.

Will E-books Change the World?
http://www.firstmonday.dk/issues/issue6_10/hillesund/

This is an interesting article that anyone interested in e-books should read. It was written in a journal by Terje Hillesund.

E-Book Library at the Electronic Text Center, University of Virginia
http://etext.lib.virginia.edu/ebooks/ebooklist.html

Another e-book library. This one contains over 1600 e-books ranging from classic fiction to the Bible.

University of California Press-E-Editions
http://www.ucpress.edu/scan/books.html

This site contains electronic editions of Univesity of California Press Books. This would be a great site for teachers and students. The books are in subject areas such as Literature and History.

BookRags
http://www.bookrags.com/ebooks.html

BookRags contains 1500 e-books. Not a bad site for searching for e-books. However, I am not a big fan of pop-up ads and this one had many.
