Unwanted Creatures
There are also creatures that live in the Great Lakes that didn't always live there. These creatures cause damage by eating food that is for other animals. They also destroy the food web which is the order that animals eat each other.
Here we will show a few of the creatures that destroy the Great Lakes. These creatures are often brought in by ships coming from the ocean.
- Zebra Mussels- These creatures are a problem because they block pipes and other waterways that are in the lakes. They also attach themselves to the bottom of boats. When they are attached to the bottom of the boats, the boats need to get fixed more.

- Spiny Water Flea- These small creatures eat the lowest level of the food chain making it hard for fish eggs to survive. Larger fish won't eat them either because they have spiny bodies.

- Sea Lamprey- This creature almost looks like an eel. It attaches itself to deep water fish so it can get food and move around. They stay attached to the fish until it dies. They attach to the fish by the many teeth that they have at their head.
